Is it November already? Time sure does fly! Well, it's time to get out our winter clothes and get ready for some delicious Thanksgiving dinners. This month we will be having some good old-fashioned fun on the farm, taking notice of the Fall changes and colors, learning about Thanksgiving and talking about some things we are thankful for. We will also be celebrating quite a few birthdays this month (including Miss Sandy's). We would like to wish Aidan, Anthony and Matthew a very Happy Birthday! Some reminders for the parents: Please make sure your child has a warm change of clothes in their cubby and everything that is brought to school must be labeled with your child's first and last name (clothing, containers, lunch boxes and toys). Looks like November is going to be busy and exciting!

Pre-K 1
I can't believe Halloween has come and is gone already. Thanks to all our parents who helped make our Oktoberfest and Halloween a great success.
This month we're looking forward to celebrate Thanksgiving together. Our country will be "America" in the early days. We'll learn how the Indians taught the Pilgrims, how to farm, hunt and fish. Some of our crafts will be feather pens, clay pots and beads, sand paintings, bean collages and Thanksgiving placemats. I will be asking for Fall leaves for special projects, such as home made potpourri and Fall wreaths. We'll celebrate Thanksgiving just like the Pilgrims and Indians did at a table fit for a feast on Tuesday, November 22nd. We're making Indian feathers for the boys and Pilgrim hats for the girls. We'll sit at one long feast table set in our home made placemats. We will continue with our "star" of the week this month. You'll receive a "star" certificate a few days before asking for family photos, favorite snacks and books. Current Events is on Mon. and Tues. every week and Show and Share is Thurs. and Fri. Our letters this month will be G,H & I. Our numbers are 5 & 6. At the beginning of the month, we'll celebrate Election Day at a special center. We'll also make sandwiches on the "Earl of Sandwich Day." We can't wait to get started.

Pre-K 2Happy November! We are officially into Fall. Please remember to bring in a change of clothes for when your children fall in the morning dew, dirt or slide down the wet slides. Wet and dirty accidents do happen so please load your child's cubby with a set of warm, dry clothes to change into when this happens. Thank you. Our two states this month will be California and New York. One of the questions we will try to answer is "Why the Quail is California's State Bird?" And New York's question is "Which is larger, the Adirondack Park or The state of Massachusetts?" We will also visit the Guggenheim Museum, pretend to ice skate in Rockefeller Center and wander around the room like endangered animals that live in the Bronx Zoo. For Thanksgiving week, we will make Indian Leather Paintings, mat weaving, sort gourds, try to guess what some Native American symbols represent and make paint from crushing berries, leaves and grass together. During Fresh From the Farm week, we will taste test different cheeses and compare the flavor of strawberry and chocolate milk. We will also make designs with eggshells and also our french fries from McDonald's (okay that's not Farm Fresh but it will be fun! ) Some games we will play; "Carrot, Carrot, Corn", "Hot and Cold" and "Vegetable Tag." Of course we will be doing Fall specific projects. Such as rake leaves outside. We will learn to play "Pretty Leaves Are Falling Down," "Twirling Leaves" and practice catching gourds and playing football outside. Did I mention the Tummy Treats yet? We will make our own peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, make apple juice ice cubes, build an igloo out of ice cubes and taste test ice cream flavors! We will also do some different art by "painting" with ice cream one day then peanut butter and jelly the next followed by finger-painting with cake icing. Yum!

KindergartenGobble, Gobble! It's time for a Harvest Celebration! We are beginning the holiday season this month with the feast of Thanksgiving, but before we start we have lots of new things to learn. In Science, we will continue to watch the leaves change into those beautiful fall colors and feel the weather change into those crisp mornings we love. We will start to learn about time by studying the minute, hour, and second hands, and learn about the different types of clocks. We will be using scales to weigh objects and learn what objects are light or heavy and use our new Science Activity books and Science Workbooks to learn about matter, including solids, liquids and gases. In Math, we will be learning ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and continue making different types of graphs. We will also begin using our Math Textbooks and Math Practice Workbooks which will review some of the things we have already learned since the beginning of the year. For Language Arts, we are starting a new journal and we're going to try to tell a story for each picture we draw. We will review the letters J,K,L,M,N,O and will also discuss opposites and be adding more work to our student portfolios. At the end of the month, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving and discussing the importance of our families and friends. We have some really neat Thanksgiving books to read, like Thanksgiving is for Giving Thanks by Margaret Sutherland and Arther's Thanksgiving by Marc Brown. We will be having a feast at school and make something special to bring to our feast at home! We will continue to have Current Events every Wednesday and our Word of The Week every Tuesday. We also have two more birthdays this month - Hanisha(5) and Jared (6).
