Teacher Appreciation Week
May 6-10

The second week in May is National Teacher Appreciation Week. This is the week when we celebrate the people who dedicate their days to caring for our precious little ones. Their job is the most important one in the world, and also one of the most challenging! So if you haven't told your favorite teacher how much you appreciate all that she does, this would be the perfect time to let her know. Thank you, teachers!

Parking Lot Safety

We have noticed that some cars have been driving pretty quickly through our parking lot. Please be careful of children (and adults!) who are walking across the lot. Remember, you never know when a little one might dart out in front of you. Slow down!!!

Allergy Awareness Week
May 5-11

May 5-11 has also been designated Food Allergy Awareness Week by the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network. Lorraine and Rich S. (Ben's parents) have provided some valuable information on food allergies - please see the attached sheet at the end of the newsletter. Thank you to Lorraine and Rich for passing on the info!

Summer Actvity Fee

There has been some confusion over the summer activity fee. As you have probably noticed, the fee showed up on your May bill. However, payment is not due until June 1st. The reason that it was posted with this month's tuition is so that parents have the option of paying it in two installments rather than all at once. The one-time fee covers all supplies, special events and visitors, and field trips for the older children for the entire summer. If you have any further questions, please ask Al or Tina.

News from the Classrooms

Infant Room

During the month of May our little sweeties will be introduced to zoo animals, feathered friends, and of course, we will not forget our mommies! We will continue to help them grow, learn, and develop in all areas. Hopefully the weather will be warm so we can enjoy taking the children outside to play.

First Steps

The month of May is going to be very exciting for First Steps! We are really looking forward to making special gifts for Mother's Day. We are also excited to learn about flowers and explore outside in the beautiful May weather! One fun week we will even learn about snakes, snails, and reptiles. Scary!!!

Toddler 1

Toddler 1 is looking forward to the month of May! We hope that April's showers will bring us beautiful flowers that we can share with our friends. This month we will be learning about all different animals and exploring the environments that they live in. We will also be making special gifts and treats for our moms to help them have a special day!

Brooke & Danielle

Get Set 1

Our Get Set 1 class will be busy with all sorts of fun projects this month! We will learn about all sorts of different animals, from slithering snakes to beautiful birds. We will make maracas as we learn about the country of the month, Mexico. We will also work on our Mothers' Day gifts to give to our mommies.

Get Set 2

Sadly, we said goodbye to Miss Jen last week. We are currently looking for a new head teacher; during this transitional time Miss Pam and Miss Kathy will be covering the class, with help from Miss Sharon! During the month of May, we will be planting seeds and learning about how flowers grow. We will also make Mothers' Day gifts, learn about different animals and where they live, and make nachos to celebrate the country of the month, Mexico!

Preschool 1

Preschool 1 is missing Miss Kia! She is still at home recovering from her car accident a few weeks ago. Sue and Stephanie have been doing a great job keeping the class busy and happy while Kia is out! Miss Kim in Preschool 2 has been kind enough to share her lesson plans with them so they can coordinate their activities with her class. If all goes well, Miss Kia should be back with us before the end of the month.

Sue and Stephanie

Preschool 2

Preschool 2 has a lot planned for the month of May. We will be learning about zoo animals and doing some great animal art projects. We will also make a pinata and learn some new Spanish words for our country of the month, Mexico. And finally, in honor of Mothers' Day we will have a brunch for our moms on Wednesday, May 8th.

Kim and Megan

Pre-Kindergarten

We will be making our own Barnes & Noble book center this month with books we made ourselves. We are celebrating Mother's Day with a tea party on May 8th. Drop in before work to hear soft music and share a bagel and book with your Pre-K child! We will celebrate Cinco de Mayo by "visiting" Mexico! Our units this month will be "Our Bodies" and "Maps."

Barbara, Valerie & Giselle

Kindergarten

May will be a busy time for us in Kindergarten. We will continue to study money and time in Math, animals in Science, and compound words in Language Arts. We will also be preparing for our Graduation Ceremony, which will be held on June 18th. We will be studying Mexico, reading some familiar books in Spanish, learning some Spanish words, and of course, celebrating Cinco de Mayo!
