Summer Camp is Coming!

Can you believe it? It's time to start thinking about summer camp already! The summer camp calendars will be in your mailboxes soon and we hope you are looking forward to all of the fun activities that we have planned. This summer, in addition to our fun field trips and visitors, we are going to offer swimming lessons. Lessons will be provided by certified swim instructors at the Aquatic and Fitness center, located behind our school. In addition to the instructors and lifeguards, our teachers will also accompany the children to their classes. Lessons will be offered, for an additional charge, to our Pre-K students and Older Campers. Lessons will be offered either once or twice a week, depending upon the number of children interested. Cost will be, approximately, $80 for one lesson a week for eight weeks or $120 for two lessons per week for eight weeks. If you are interested in having your child take swimming lessons, please see someone in the office as soon as possible to have your name placed on the list.

Information Update

Parents, please make sure that the office has your most current contact information. It is VERY important that we have several telephone numbers in your child's file so that we can contact you in case of an emergency or an early closing. If your employer, cell phone number, or home telephone number have changed, please request an emergency contact form from the office. Thank you for your cooperation!

March "Special" Days

This month, we will have two special days. On Wednesday, the 2nd, we will celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday by sharing our favorite Dr. Seuss stories or dressing like one of our favorite characters. See your classroom teachers for details. On Thursday the 17th, let's all dress in green in celebration of St. Patrick's Day!

News from the Classrooms

Infant Room

Welcome to March! It's hard to believe that another month is here already. Time to start preparing for spring in the infant room. First of all we will be welcoming two new friends, Sophia and Delia, to our room. March will be a busy month for us! We will be helping a few of our older infants make the transition to the next classroom. We will miss them but know they will do a great job! We plan to have a small party for St. Patrick's Day. We will have fun tasting some green Jell-O and Shamrock cookies. We will also have an egg hunt with plastic eggs! Hopefully the weather will be warming up and we will be taking the infants outside for some fresh air. Please take a moment to check your child's cubby and make sure that there is plenty of weather appropriate clothing, including a hat. We look forward to spending another fun-filled month with your children!

First Steps

In the month of March we will learn about all kinds of animals, from ocean life to farm animals, to animals that we find in a pet store. We will also look at pictures from the zoo and find out what kind of animals live in the zoo. We will play with all of our toy animals and create beautiful art projects using our favorite materials. We will make dogs and cats using paper shapes and glue. We will decorate fish and finger paint an ocean. We can't wait to get started with this month!

Ms. Marni and Ms. Kelly

Toddler 1

Happy March! Enough of this cold, snowy weather, let's think Spring! Welcome Leah T. to our class. She will be joining her friends in Toddler 1 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This month our theme will focus on animals. We will be practicing our zoo animal noises, talking about what lives in the sea, and what rumbles in the jungle. We will also add a touch of green (for all of our Irish friends). As the weather gets nicer, we will go out for a breath of fresh air. Please make sure your children have coats, hats, and gloves. Be sure to check the extra clothes in your cubby to make sure that they are also weather-appropriate. One last comment from us -- thank you for working with us during our room transition period. Everything seems to be falling into place nicely.

Thanks!
Ms. Desiree, Ms. Rose, and Ms. Melissa

Toddler 2

March means that spring is on it's way! We will be celebrating Leo's birthday on the 22nd. March 17th is St. Patrick's Day, so be sure to wear green. The theme is animals so we will be learning about animals that live in the zoo or the farm. We'll be making pictures of animals and also learning what lives under the ocean. Hopefully, the weather will be turning warmer and we will be getting outside more often.

Ms. Megan & Ms. Tara

Get Set

This is a very fun time for Get Set. This is the month where we welcome the spring season and also celebrate birthdays for 3 of our Get Set friends. We are very happy to welcome Ms. Eileen to our classroom as well! We will be exploring many different animals from the farm, and the zoo to the ocean. We will celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a leprechaun hunt and we will make a "Pot of Gold" snack with pineapple. We will finish off the month with a fun puppet show using our favorite animals puppets. Happy Spring!

Ms. Kristin & Ms. Marni

Preschool

As we welcome March, we will be focusing on four themes. The four themes include "On the farm", "Zoo", "Ocean", and "Pond Life". Along with the themes, we will incorporate letters S, T, and U. Please allow children to bring in animals that are associated with each theme. We will also be starting "Star of the Week" and celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Jessica Crawford will be our first "Star of the Week" and our St. Patrick's Day party sign-up sheet will be up next week. Thank you for all of your help and cooperation!

Ms Alexis & Ms. Rachael

Pre-K 1

Pre-K 1 will welcome Spring with lions and lambs. We'll graph the "Signs of Spring" and happily welcome warmer weather. We'll celebrate Alexander Graham Bell's birthday by setting up a Telephone Center. We will make telephones and learn our phone numbers. It's also Dr. Seuss's birthday. Let's make green eggs and ham instead of a birthday cake! On St. Patrick's Day, we will decorate our room in green and prepare green milkshakes. Our Literature Series will be, "Peter Rabbit". We're planning to paper mache eggs and have a day of candy-making. Let's dye eggs and have an egg hunt on our playground, too! We will also prepare a yummy "Bunny Salad". Our country this month will be Ireland. Music appreciation will be songs and dances from Ireland and the musical "Seussical". We are setting up a grocery store with a cash resister to learn the value of money. Our letters will be S, T, and U. See you in the Spring!

Ms. Barbara, Ms. Val & Miss Shari

Pre-K 2

In March we will be learning the letters "T" (1st), "U" 8th), and "S" (15th). Jungle animals will be the theme for show and tell on the 22nd. We will be changing our kitchen center into an office this month with telephones, typewriters, pencils, pads of paper, envelopes to practice addresses, and a rolodex to practice our phone numbers. We will also start to learn the names of the 50 states and begin recording the weather on our weather graph during morning circle. We will be creating a pretend pet store in our classroom complete with signs on how to care for each animal, signs for where the animals are in the store and how much they cost. Children will bring in their stuffed animal dogs, cats, lizards, fish, etc. to sell in the store and other children can purchase them with pretend money! Our last week we will be studying jungle animals by making a list of all the things we want to know about them and then finding the answers in our animal books. For St. Patrick's Day on the 17th, we will be having a small "Green Party"! Everything we eat needs to be green! We will even make our applesauce turn green with food coloring! Let's have a great month!

Ms. Kathy and Ms. Jessica

Kindergarten

Believe it or not, this month we will be welcoming Spring! So hopefully, we will be spending more time outside! We will be learning about zoo animals, ocean creatures, farm animals, and find out who lives in the jungle. Along with our pet hermit crab, Hermie, we would like to welcome a new addition. We will have a fish aquarium in our Kindergarten classroom. We will decide, as a class, on names for our fish and we will discuss aquatic life. Some of the books we will be reading will be The Cow that Went Oink! by Bernard Most; No Moon, No Milk by Chris Babcock; Good Morning, Chick by Mirra Ginsburg, and a lot of other exciting stories. In Language Arts, the class will complete a unit on vowels and learn about rhyming words in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday. On Wednesday the 2nd, we will enjoy Green Eggs and Ham to celebrate one of our favorite authors. We will also continue with our letters V, W, and X. Ms. Brenda and I will perform a special story for the class, so be sure to wear your best farm gear on Friday, March 4. Math will focus on measurement. The class will learn how to measure length, weight, and volume. Science will begin by talking about the changing seasons, planting seeds and conducting seed experiments. Our country of the month is Ireland, so we will be learning about St. Patrick's Day, viewing pictures of Ireland, dancing to Irish music, enjoying green milkshakes, and making and eating Irish potatoes. For my birthday on March 27 (Ms. Colleen) I will be bringing in a special Spring treat for the class.
