Sunbeam - March 2004.

Summer Camp Sign Up

Everyone should have received a letter in their mailbox regarding summer camp. Please be sure to return the bottom portion of this letter to let us know if your child will be attending our summer program. Returning the form doesn't commit you to anything; it's simply to give us an idea of how many children to expect this summer. Please turn the forms in by Friday, March 12th. If you have questions about summer camp at Goddard, please stop by or call the office and ask.

Lunch Money Procedures

On special lunch days, parents are welcome to hand their lunch money directly to Tina, Brooke, or Al when they are in the office. However, if no one is available in the office when you are dropping off your child, please DO NOT leave money on the desk or hand it to your child's teacher! Instead, place your money in one of the small brown envelopes located on the sign-in shelf. Be sure to write your child's full name on the envelope, then place it in the locked mailbox located on the wall outside the office. If you are paying for more than one day's lunch, please be sure to specify on the envelope which days you are paying for. If you need change, it will be placed in your child's mailbox by the end of the morning. Thank you for your cooperation!

Free Hamsters

Preschool 2 has two hamsters who are looking for a good home. Cage, food, and other accessories are included. If you'd like to adopt them, please see Miss Denver ASAP.

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who participated in our February fundraiser! We will let you know soon how much money we raised to bring us closer to our goal of resurfacing our playground. Everyone's efforts are appreciated.

News from the Classrooms

Infant Room

We would like to welcome our newest babies, Ava Buonanno, Vijay Ramu, Matthew McClean, and Luke Gervasi! We look forward to enjoying getting to know them. Also, a happy "hello" to our dear friend Miss Viv, who is back with us in the afternoons! During the month of March we will celebrate St. Patty's Day with shamrock prints and yummy shamrock shakes! We will also have fun with stamping and marble art. We will explore the zoo theme with plastic animals and learning some animal sounds. e,

This month we will look at animals in the zoo, in the sea, in the jungle, and learn about dinosaurs. Some of the great books we'll be reading to accompany our "animals" theme are Does A Kangaroo Have A Mother, Too? and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Eric Carle. In Clifford's Class Trip by Norman Bridwell, Clifford visits an aquarium and a dinosaur museum. Finally, in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday we will read Dr. Seuss's ABCs. We'll be celebrating St. Patrick's Day by decorating our classroom and having a St. Patty's Party!

We are sad to say "bye-bye" to Miss Chelsea. Miss Meaghan will be the new teacher in Toddler 2. We are so lucky to have her! We'll also miss Emily, who officially moved into the Get Set class! We have lots of new additions to our class from Toddler 1 (Allison, Max, Morgan, and Dante) as well as some brand-new friends (Cole and Robbie). This month we will be learning about all kinds of animals! We will also celebrate St. Patrick's Day, Dr. Seuss's birthday, and the first day of spring - yay!!! We can't wait to kick off March with all our new friends!

Get Set

March will be very uplifting in Get Set! Our first celebration of the month is Dr. Seuss's birthday on the 2nd, when we'll be reading some favorite Dr. Seuss classics. St. Patrick's Day will be lots of fun with a Leprechaun Hunt and a class party. We're happy to welcome the beginning of spring and getting to spend more time outdoors. Be sure to bring plenty of changes of clothes for your child that are appropriate for the warmer weather. We hope that everyone has a wonderful month!

Kristin & Dawn

Preschool 1

Welcome to all our new friends who recently moved up from Get Set: Elena, Gregory, Harrison, and Marika! This month we will learn about zoo animals, dinosaurs, ocean creatures, and who lives in the jungle. We can't wait to celebrate St. Patrick's Day by dancing to Irish music and enjoying green milkshakes! To celebrate the arrival of spring we will make a spring mural. We will also be focusing on the letters S, T, and U and continuing with our lessons in sign language. Finally, we'll be learning all about our country of the month, Ireland.*

Maureen & Melissa

Preschool 2

Our class will be learning all about the color green this month. In honor of the country of the month, Ireland, and St. Patrick's Day, we will be making Irish potatoes and decorating rainbows... maybe we'll find a pot of gold at the end! Our letters of the month are S, T, and U. We are also happy to welcome three new friends from Get Set: Jillian, Molly, and Troy. In science we will learn about the changing seasons and welcome spring with open arms. We're sure it will be a busy, fun-filled month!

Pre-K 1

During the month of March we'll continue to learn the worth of money. To go along with our chapter books we'll add some "Easy Readers." I think we're ready for the challenge! Our celebrations will be Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2nd - who likes green eggs and ham? It's for breakfast! The next day we'll celebrate Alexander Graham Bell's birthday by starting to learn our phone numbers. On St. Patrick's Day we're looking for a green surprise. Learning about rainbows and weather will be our next unit. Finally, on March 21st we'll celebrate the beginning of spring. We're looking forward to a busy and fun month!

Barbara, Valerie, & Shari

Pre-K 2

We will have many exciting activities going on this month in Pre-K 2! We will continue our letters T & U, and our numbers 10, 11, and 12. We will also learn how to tie our shoes. It will be a challenge at first, but we'll get the hang of it! We will celebrate St. Patrick's Day on the 17th with a "Good Luck Party." Everyone will wear green and have special good luck treats. We are so happy spring is finally arriving so we can spend more time outside, learn about flowers and animals, and spring clean our classroom so everyone stays healthy!

Kathy and Jessica

Kindergarten

Miss Chris begins her maternity leave this month, and our wonderful Miss Brenda will be running the class in Chris's absence. In Language Arts, the class will complete a unit on vowels and learn about rhyming words in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday. Math will focus on the concept of time and learning to read clocks. We will continue exploring the five senses in science, then will introduce the topic of animals in the jungle, zoo, and ocean, as well as dinosaurs! We'll welcome the beginning of spring by planting seeds and conducting seed experiments. Our country of the month is Ireland, so we'll be learning about St. Patrick's Day, clovers and wishes, and perhaps even have a visit from a leprechaun! Our Social Studies topics will include Norman Rockwell, Helen Keller, Clara Barton, Amelia Earhart, and Pablo Picasso.
