The spring semester of Kinderlanguage begins the week of March 24th. There are 11 classes in a semester for $9 each - $99 for the semester. We only have 7 spots left for the spring semester, so if you are interested in enrolling your child please sign up in the office ASAP - spots are first come, first served!

New Teachers

There are a few new faces around the school these days. We have welcomed several new teachers in the past couple of months, including Nicole E. (Get Set), Tim D. (afternoon Kindergarten), and our wonderful floating assistants, Heather J. and Joanne V. We are so happy to have them as part of the Goddard family!

Summer Camp

We have completed our planning for the summer camp 2003 program. The calendar of themes and events will be posted this week. Look and see what fun things we have planned!

News from the Classrooms

Infant Room

During the month of March we will be doing many Irish-related art projects, including playing with green jello, tasting and painting with green pudding, and marble painting fun projects. We also look forward to helping our children grow and advance more in their skills. We are very excited to welcome our two new students, Sean M. and Stephen M. We are also very proud of our two big boys that graduated to Toddler 1, Colin and Jacob!

March is going to be a fun-filled month in Toddler 1! We will be learning the letters S, T, and U, as well as celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday on the 2nd. We are sad to see Sean M. and Kelly T. leave our room, but we know they will have a blast in Toddler 2. Let's welcome, fresh from the Infant Room, Jacob C. and Colin K.!

Toddler 2

March wil be a fun filled month as we say goodbye to winter (maybe) and hello to spring. We will be making lions and lambs and we will have a special "Green Day" on March 17th to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. We will also be focusing on children's stories such as The Cat in the Hat and Corduroy. We will make our own musical instruments and create a special dance number as we pretend to be on Broadway. We would like to welcome Sean and Kelly from Toddler 1. We would also like to wish Darby, Lucas P., and Rowan well as they move into Get Set. We love you and will miss you!

Get Set

Miss Nicole has had a wonderful first month getting to know the Get Set children and their families. She wants to thank everyone for welcoming her so warmly to the Goddard family. This month the class will be concentrating on art appreciation. We will learn about children's literature, music of various kinds, drama, and much more. We will celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday, Mardi Gras, and St. Patrick's Day. Beginning the second week of March we will be implementing a "Show & Share" program: Mondays for the boys and Thursdays it's the girls' turn. Quick reminder to label all your child's belongings. Thanks!

Shari, Kristin & Nicole

Preschool 1

March is here, which means spring is on the way! This month Preschool will be doing many exciting activities. For St. Patrick's Day we will create our own leprechaun puppets. We will also make our own pots of gold! We will discuss different children's authors, such as Dr. Seuss and Beatrix Potter, and create our own stories. Since March is the month for Mardi Gras, we will make special beaded necklaces to wear. For "The Sound of Music" theme we will make our own instruments. On a really fun note, we have added two new centers to our room: a writing center and a math center! March is sure to be a pot full of fun!

Erin & Maureen

Preschool 2

We'd like to start off by welcoming our new friends Rachael S., Ashley H., and Daniel N. to Preschool! We will start off the month by focusing on some of our favorite stories. Every day we will read a book, then focus our daily activities around that story. We will also bring in our favorite story books to share with our friends. For "The Sound of Music" week we will focus on everything from our voices to nature's music. For "A Trip to the Museum" we will learn about different artists each day. We will paint in blues like Picasso and draw on our backs like Michelangelo did on the Sistine Chapel. Finally, for "Broadway Bound" we will work on creating a puppet stage and puppets which we will use to finish off the week with a puppet performance!

Kim and Megan

Pre-K 1

During the month of March, Pre-K 1 will be painting the class with green activities. We will study the worth of pennies, nickels, dimes, and dollar bills by setting up a supermarket. We'll learn how to operate the cash register! Last month we had fun learning our addresses, now this month we will learn our phone numbers. It will be fun to set up a telephone company with real phones so we can call home. On St. Patrick's Day we'll have a parade and prepare green milkshakes. We can't wait for spring!

Barbara, Valerie, & Sherry

Pre-K 2

March is coming in full-force like a lion! We'll be busy with Green Eggs and Ham for Dr. Seuss's birthday (we're changing it a little to "green applesauce and smiles")! Then we'll move over to Mardi Gras in Louisiana and parade around in our Mardi Gras masks. St. Patrick's Day celebration will start a week early with art projects and end with a "surprise" visit from a leprechaun who might leave us a pot of "gold." Our artists will spend the last week of March pretending that we are mini Vincent Van Goghs in honor of his birthday. We will bid farewell to Mike D., who will be staying home and keeping his mommy and new baby brother entertained with his contagious smile.

Kindergarten

While the March winds blow through the Goddard School the Kindergarteners will be busy with their academics. We will be completing our unit on vowels and have a brief review before we move into our blends. In mathematics we have been working with the concept of fractions. March will give us the opportunity to get familiar with our money. We will be using all sorts of manipulatives and playing lots of games to help us learn about our currency. Hold onto your wallets, Mom and Dad!

March is also time to prepare for the annual visit of the leprechaun! We will be doing lots of special projects based on our wishes for the world and the things that make us lucky. This is also a fun opportunity to explore the weather and rainbows for science.

The monthly theme for March is the Arts. This will give us the opportunity to become more familiar with our favorite authors, such as Shel Silverstein, Dr. Seuss, and Eric Carle. We will also spend some quality time with some famous composers, such as Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven. We can't forget about the famous artists, such as Van Gogh and Michelangelo. Keep your eyes out for the Kindergarteners' perspectives on the works of these great artists.

Special events taking place in the month of March include Women's History Month, Dr. Seuss's birthday, Mardi Gras, and of course, St. Patrick's Day. Please stop by to see how we incorporate all of these special topics into our day. Chris is having a wonderful time in Kindergarten, and is very proud to be part of her class's accomplishments. Have a great month!
