Sunscreen Forms

The children are spending more time outdoors now that the sunny spring weather has arrived. Please feel free to bring in sunscreen for your child if you would like. Please remember the following guidelines:
(1) Sunscreen must be labeled with the child's first and last name.
(2) Siblings must each have their own bottle of sunscreen.
(3) Parents must fill out an authorization form in order for sunscreen to be applied.
(4) Teachers may apply sunscreen to the children before going outdoors in the afternoon. In the mornings, parents should apply sunscreen to their children before arriving at school.
If you are bringing sunscreen to school for your child, please pick up an authorization form in the office.

Summer Camp Enrollment

Everyone should have received a letter in their mailbox listing the Summer Activity Fees and asking what their summer plans are. If you did not receive this letter, please stop by the office and get one. It is important that everyone please turn in the bottom portion of the letter to let us know what their plans are for the summer.
Please let us know if your child will be attending Goddard this summer by Friday, April 11th. We need to figure out how many children will be attending summer camp this year. Thank you!
Also, camp calendars are available on the sign-in shelf in the lobby. Be sure to pick one up and see what fun activities we have planned!

School Closed

Don't forget that school will be closed for Spring Recess on Friday, April 18.

Extra Clothes

It is always important that every child should have a change of clothes in his or her cubby. With the weather so changeable these days, be sure to have both warm-weather clothes and a sweater or jacket available!

Preschool 1

Hooray! Spring is finally here!
Since the theme for the month of April is Earth and Space, we are going to be talking a lot about the nine planets of the solar system and our earth. At the beginning of the month we will learn about dinosaurs and will make dinosaur footprints! We will make our own solar system mobile and will plant a tree for Earth Day. Since the weather is starting to get nice, we can't wait to get outside and play fun games such as Red Light, Green Light and Freeze Tag. April is going to be full of fun!

Erin & Melissa

Preschool 2

We are starting off the month of April learning all about dinosaurs. We will dig up dino bones, count dino eggs, and make dino fossils. During the Week of the Young Child we will be presenting our "Special Me" posters, and will talk about ourselves and what makes us special. Space will be our focus during Week 3 as we count stars and use balls to make our very own solar system. After learning about Passover and Easter we will end the week with an Egg Hunt and a Springtime Celebration! We will learn what we can do to keep our land and water clean through some fun science experiments. We will wrap up the month by learning about rain and creating our own rain! All month long we will learn about the country of Japan. We will learn Japanese words, make Japanese lanterns, and do origami. We have a busy month in front of us!

During the month of April our units will be graphs and measurements. We will also design several classroom books. Pre-K is going into the candy-making business! We'll learn to make colored chocolate pretzels and marshmallows. It's going to be fun creating paper mache balloons for a special spring surprise. Just before our "spring break" we'll have an Egg Hunt and we'll prepare Bunny Salads. Parents can look for the donation list on the easel outside our classroom. On Earth Day we'll have a special outdoor celebration with the Kindergarten class.

Creatively, we will be decorating our room with butterfly mobiles, sun faces, and flowers of every shape, size, and color. We will do our Show & Tell for the letters X, W, and V. In honor of Earth Day, we will learn about recycling by making our own composts. Finally, we will study the country of Japan. We will learn about its location and culture, and then we will make rice balls!

Kindergarten

Our April Showers will be bringing the Kindergarteners lots of new and exciting things. In Language Arts we will be reviewing our beginning and ending sounds. Then we will begin working with blends. This unit will be full of hands-on and group activities to help each of us strengthen our reading abilities. Time will be the topic in Math. We will review our sequencing skills before jumping into telling time to the hour and the half hour. This is also a great opportunity for us to learn how to count in our 2's and 5's. Social Studies will be full of new adventures. Get those passports ready! We are visiting Japan this month! In Japan, we will learn the art of origami, make miniature gardens, design our own Kokeshi dolls, and much more.

Our month will start off with a silly April Fool's Day. Arbor Day and Earth Day will then be a nice chance to celebrate the beauty of the world. We will also welcome the holidays of Easter and Passover into our classroom by making fuzzy friends, baskets, and matza creations. Science will be full of new experiences for us. We will begin April back in the times of the dinosaurs by becoming archeologists making and digging for fossils. We will also learn about all the different kinds of dinosaurs that once walked the earth. We will explore the awesome technology of space travel, then make space ships and become astronauts learning about the planets and stars in the galaxy. In addition, we will spend some extra time learning about the changes that take place in nature and with the weather this time of year.

Everyone is very happy to see that Harry the hamster is back from hibernation and that we have tadpoles in our room! Feel free to come by and visit our friends! We are looking forward to another exciting month here in Kindergarten! We are both very proud of how well the children are sprouting in our land of learning and imagination!
